Quantitative comparison of the OCT imaging depth at 1300 nm and 1600 nm

One of the present challenges in optical coherence tomography (OCT) is the visualization of deeper structural morphology in biological tissues. Owing to a reduced scattering, a larger imaging depth can be achieved by using longer wavelengths. In this work, we analyze the OCT imaging depth at wavelengths around 1300 nm and 1600 nm by comparing the scattering coefficient and OCT imaging depth for...

The Solar Wind Power from Magnetic Flux

Observations of the fast, high-latitude solar wind throughout Ulysses’ three orbits show that solar wind power correlates remarkably well with the Sun’s total open magnetic flux. These observations support a recent model of the solar wind energy and particle sources, where magnetic flux emergence naturally leads to an energy flux proportional to the strength of the large-scale magnetic field. T...

THE SOLAR SPECTRAL IRRADIANCE FROM 200 TO 2400 nm AS MEASURED BY THE SOLSPEC SPECTROMETER FROM THE ATLAS AND EURECA MISSIONS

The SOLar SPECtrum (SOLSPEC) and the SOlar SPectrum (SOSP) spectrometers are two twin instruments built to carry out solar spectral irradiance measurements. They are made of three spectrometers dedicated to observations in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared domains. SOLSPEC flew with the ATmospheric Laboratory for Applications and Science (ATLAS) while SOSP flew on the EUropean Retrieval CAr...

Solar Neutrino Flux

We have measured the Coulomb dissociation of 8B into 7Be and proton at 254 MeV/nucleon using a large-acceptance focusing spectrometer. The astrophysical S17 factor for the 7Be(p,γ)8B reaction at Ec.m. = 0.25−2.78 MeV is deduced yielding S17(0) = 20.6± 1.2 (exp.) ± 1.0 (theo.) eV-b. This result agrees with the presently adopted zero-energy S17 factor obtained in directreaction measurements and w...

Flux-Transport Solar Dynamos

Large-scale solar dynamo models were first built by Parker (1955). Over the past half a century these models have evolved significantly. We discuss here the development of a class of large-scale dynamo models which include, along with the α-effect and Ω-effect, an important third process, flux transport by meridional circulation. We present the properties of this ‘flux-transport’ dynamo, includ...
